INTRODUCTION

This page provides a brief guide to Bradford in West Yorkshire (north England). The population of the metropolitan area in 2004 was about 480,000.

People from Bradford are known as Bradfordians. Famous citizens include the playwright JB Priestley (author of "An Inspector Calls"), the swimmer Adrian Moorhouse (winner of an Olympic gold medal in 1988), and artist David Hockney.

ASIAN COMMUNITY

Bradford has a large Asian community. According to the 2001 census about 20% of the population are of Pakistani, Indian or Bangladeshi ethnicity (and about 30% of the population under 18).
