£1000 up for grabs for design students
Entry packs fall on design students eager for recognition
· Every Institute in the country (with a design course) will receive a set of entry packs for Cog Design’s annual recognition of student creativity– the Recognition Awards Scheme.
· This initiative for design students in Further and Higher Education has seen more than 3,000 entry packs distributed this week.
· The Recognition Awards Scheme encourages students in the UK to create a visual response to the concept of ‘recognition’.
· Winners will receive -
- Cash prizes of 1 x £1000, 2 x £500;
- Work placement opportunities;
- The sixteen top entrants will have their work published as postcards.
· Winners will be selected by a panel of leading designers and practitioners, industry journalists and professional design-buyers.
· Deadline for entries is 17.00, 3rd March 2008.
· Students and tutors can find out more and register for (or download) an entry pack at www.recognitionday.org/
· Cog was keen to create links with the potentially revolutionary recruitment website for students: www.studentgems.com. “Through studentgems we can utilise their network of talented designers to bring them the annual recognition of student creativity.”
· The Recognition Awards Scheme is the precursor to the wider initiative, Recognition Day – where acts of altruism are encouraged on 4th May.
· Last year’s winners were; Daniel Duhig, University of Leeds, he received £1000; Lauren Algeo, University of Greenwich, she received £500; Kathryn Cook, Kingston University, she received £500. Lauren and Kathryn also received a three week work placement.
